Checkup and Clean

Man thrilled with new smileOne of the best ways to keep your pearly whites healthy is through preventative care. In addition to practicing good oral hygiene habits at home such as brushing twice daily and flossing once a day, visiting the dentist twice a year for a checkup and clean is critical.

What to Expect

At She’s Apples Dentistry, your checkup and clean appointments include the following:

  • Assessing the health of your mouth. We will provide a thorough oral cancer screening, both visually and digitally (using the fingers), checking all of your lymph nodes, lips, tongue and the insides of your mouth and cheeks.
  • X-ray if necessary. These are typically needed on your first visit to the dentist or every two years to see what is happening underneath the gums, with the jaw and rest of the skull.
  • A periodontal examination, which includes a thorough screening and assessment of your gums to check for any indications of periodontal (gum) disease.
  • An occlusal exam, to check for bite problems (underbite, overbite, crossbite), worn teeth, and jaw problems, such as TMJ.
  • A tooth-by-tooth inspection to identify cavities, examine any prior treatment and restorations and the current condition of each. We will locate any chipped, cracked or missing teeth, or identify any work that needs to be performed.
  • A scale and polish to remove stains and built-up plaque and tartar.
  • A fluoride treatment.

If at any time during your exam we discover a condition or cavity that may need a filling, we’ll develop a treatment plan straightaway.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long will my visit last?

A typical clean and exam appointment lasts roughly one hour.

I haven’t been to your practice for a long time. Can I make an appointment?

Yes! Rest assured that we will never judge a patient based on their dental history. By booking an appointment for a checkup and clean, we can help you get your oral health back on track.

Why is it necessary to have professional teeth cleaning?

When it comes to maintaining optimal oral health, professional teeth cleanings are essential. That’s because when a professional such as a dental hygienist does the cleaning, hard tartar is targeted and removed. Brushing and flossing at home cannot remove tartar or dental calculus.
